PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
